I became a wedding photographer by accident and it has become my dream job come true. I was asked to shoot my first wedding having never shot anything professionally and definitely having never shot a wedding (not even as a second shooter). I turned the gig down twice before I finally agreed. I got my business license just months before that first wedding in the Fall of 2015 and the rest is history. I’ve booked almost 50 weddings in less than 3 years now and have dedicated all my time and efforts to couples in love.
I'm also a small-town girl, "retired" registered nurse, mom, and military wife. I once dreamed of being a wedding planner so it is just SO CRAZY to me that I actually became a wedding photographer. I love the chaos and the puffy dresses and the tuxes and the ballrooms and the barns and the families and the music. I even thrive in the the stressful moments. I can’t ever get enough!
I love being a photographer, but first and foremost, I love the people I photograph even more. Many of my clients have left reviews saying I wasn't just their photographer but their friend. I keep in touch with many of my past brides. I make it my #1 priority to be more and do more and create an experience you will never forget. Capturing your memories in a fun and memorable way is just as important as your beautiful images!
My number one commitment as your photographer is creating an experience that you will never forget. For my clients, having a fun and memorable experience is just as important as the beautiful images I capture for them. My clients can often be found talking about how stress-free and exciting their engagement session and wedding day were with me (yes, even the grooms leave having a great time!) - and that is truly my greatest accomplishment! I'm a people person first and foremost, so working with my couples is a true privilege!
I call myself “sister time" and I keep time on any wedding day. Running behind schedule is NOT an option for me and I’m very serious about my timelines and schedules. My clients even laugh because I have “nervous hands” which are basically my t-rex hands when time gets tight. When those unforeseen things start putting us behind, I’m happy to take the stress off you and make it my #1 priority to get you those beautiful memories no matter what.
I’m terrified of losing the rings. I don’t take the rings outside...never over a grate...never over rocks...nope. No way. I blog about it often and clients know this about me! I am “known” for calling witnesses when I return the rings after detail shots saying, “Everyone look. I’m handing the rings over to the best man and they are no longer my responsibility.” It always gets laughs...but I’m dead serious!
I “joke” with my clients (but it is really true) that I have three voices...my “Hannah Voice” which is my normal, loud, spunky, and energetic voice. I have my “Professional Hannah Voice” which is the same but with more stern and to the point intonations (when I’m getting stressed and I need people to be organized and move along). Then, I have my “Professional Bossy Hannah Voice” and this is when we’re running completely behind or the drunk groomsmen simply will not listen.
My life is one giant typo...figuratively and literally. When I blog, I’m known for my typos and I TRY SO HARD and proofread. It drives my mother (who is a teacher) insane. My husband says I write like a cavewoman and one of my best friends is my “proofreader” and frequently screen shots me my mistakes. Nonetheless, it’s the one thing I’m know for not doing well and people get a kick out of it. I don’t mind either because people LOVE my blogs!
I tend to hoot and holler and squeal when I take photos. People tell me the energy lessens their fears and stress. I LOVE when they’re just rocking their sessions and I’m seeing amazing photos. I once saw myself in a video someone took with their phone and I was embarrassed because I’m so loud and excited...but clients assure me it’s “ok” and they would rather it be that way than have no idea if they are doing a good job. Makes sense.
Fun Fact: She is a Hannah Barlow Photography bride too! We initially met after she hired me at her engagement session! Our friendship quickly blossomed and her passion for both photography and weddings caught my attention! She knows the whole Hannah Barlow Photography experience from start to finish plus what it's like to be on both sides of my camera!
Meet Kari! She is one of the very best things that has happened to Hannah Barlow Photography! She's the ideal wedding day assistant!! Her hard work has made my job easier and my clients' experiences better! Her attention to detail never goes unnoticed and that's why she often directs while I shoot! She's also the train carrier, veil thrower, bag toter, refreshment runner... and she's even had to dash for the forgotten wedding ring right before a ceremony! In addition, my clients get double reception coverage because she second shoots those speeches and dance moves right along with me!
